Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 oz extra firm tofu
  • 1 tsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ cup gluten-free breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp lemon pepper seasoning
  • Juice and zest from 1 lemon
  • ½ cup vegetable broth
  • 12 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp salt (or more to taste)
  • 1 tsp minced garlic
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Drain and press the tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into 1-inch cubes.
  3. In a mixing bowl, toss cubed tofu with soy sauce or tamari, cornstarch, breadcrumbs, and lemon pepper seasoning until evenly coated.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the seasoned tofu cubes on it.
  5. Bake for about 25–30 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  6. While baking, whisk together vegetable broth, honey or maple syrup, black pepper, salt, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, lemon juice, and zest in a small pot. Bring to a boil then simmer until thickened.
  7. Remove baked tofu from the oven and let cool for five minutes before tossing it in the prepared sauce.
