  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 1/2 tablespoons honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix all the spices together and set aside.
  2. Combine tomato paste, water, honey (or maple syrup), molasses, and apple cider vinegar in a small saucepan.
  3. Stir well until fully combined.
  4. Add the spice blend from step one into the saucepan and stir until evenly mixed.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat; then reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes while stirring occasionally.
  6. If desired, adjust thickness by adding water gradually.
  7. Remove from heat and let cool before storing in an airtight container.
